The New York Jets have secured their offensive cornerstone for the long haul, signing star running back Breece Hall to a three-year, $45.75 million contract extension. The deal, confirmed by sources and first reported by NFL Network, makes good on general manager Darren Mougey's promise to address Hall's contract situation after the draft.

At $15.25 million per year, Hall now ranks as the third-highest-paid running back in the NFL, trailing only the Eagles' Saquon Barkley and the 49ers' Christian McCaffrey. For a 24-year-old back who has already proven he can be a game-changer, this deal reflects both his production and the rising market for elite runners.

The timing was critical. Hall was set to test free agency for the first time this March after being selected in the second round of the 2022 draft—meaning he never had a fifth-year option like first-round picks do. To prevent him from hitting the open market, the Jets placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on him earlier this offseason, which would have paid him $14.293 million for the 2026 season. Now, with this extension, Gang Green has locked him up through the 2028 campaign.

Hall's absence from the start of the Jets' offseason program wasn't unusual for a player under the franchise tag, and he took to social media to express his emotions about the deal. "Shoutout everyone in my corner," he wrote on X. "A lot of work left to do. God Bless." In a more heartfelt follow-up, he added: "Cried for the first time since I tore my ACL. This day hit different for me, man."

The Jets' commitment to Hall was evident even during a turbulent 2024 season. Despite trading Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams after a 1-7 start, New York held onto Hall at the trade deadline, signaling their long-term plans for the dynamic back. He rewarded that faith with a career year, finishing as one of the league's most versatile weapons.

Getting this deal done now was a savvy move by the Jets' front office. With Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs and Falcons back Bijan Robinson both eligible for extensions this offseason, the price for elite running backs was only going to climb. By securing Hall at this rate, New York has locked in a proven playmaker while avoiding a bidding war down the road. For a team looking to rebuild its identity, keeping Hall in green and white is a massive win.
