An NFL journalist has a hunch that the New York Jets should sign a former Dallas Cowboys standout defender.

The New York Jets are being tipped as the perfect landing spot for a former Dallas Cowboys star who once commanded a $97 million contract and recorded an eye-popping 11 interceptions in a single season. After a disastrous 2025-26 campaign that saw the Jets finish with a dismal 3-14 record, the team is desperate for a defensive spark—and one NFL analyst believes a familiar face could be the answer.

Let's face it: the Jets' defense struggled mightily to create turnovers last season. In fact, the unit failed to record a single interception during the entire 2025 campaign—a stat that NFL.com's Matt Okada calls "one of the most absurd facts I've ever encountered." For a team that needed every possible advantage to stay competitive, that lack of ball-hawking ability proved costly.

Enter Trevon Diggs. The former Cowboys cornerback burst onto the scene in 2021 with an incredible 11-interception season, the most by any player in the last 40 years. He followed that up with three picks in 2020 as a rookie and three more in 2022, quickly establishing himself as one of the league's most dangerous defenders. But a series of injuries derailed his last three seasons, leading Dallas to waive the former second-round pick last December.

Despite those setbacks, Diggs remains a low-risk, high-reward option. Okada notes that the Jets have already added Nahshon Wright and drafted D'Angelo Ponds at the position, so signing Diggs wouldn't be a desperate move—it would be a calculated gamble. "If he can't rediscover his early upside, then no harm, no foul," Okada wrote. But if he does, the Jets could finally have the playmaker they desperately need in the secondary.

Diggs' aggressive style—often gambling for interceptions—made him a star in Dallas and helped lead the Cowboys to the postseason. While injuries and savvy opposing receivers eventually exposed some weaknesses, a change of scenery and a fresh start in New York could reignite his career. For a Jets team that finished 3-14 and needs to rebuild its defensive identity, signing Diggs could be the smartest move of the offseason.
