The New York Jets don't appear to be satisfied with their current quarterback room.

Despite trading for Geno Smith to be the starter and drafting Cade Klubnik in the fourth round to compete for the backup role, New York is exploring the possibility of signing Russell Wilson.

Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the Jets hosted Wilson for a visit and consider him an option to be the backup signal-caller behind Smith.

"The Jets hosted Russell Wilson for a visit and are considering him as an option to be Geno Smith's No. 2 quarterback, according to a source," Rosenblatt said.

Wilson and Smith have experience being in the same quarterback room. Smith served as Wilson's backup for two years while they were together with the Seattle Seahawks.

Now, if the Jets sign Wilson, it would be the other way around, as Wilson would be Smith's backup.

Along with Smith and Klubnik, New York also has Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe in the quarterback group. It's hard to imagine the Jets carrying five quarterbacks on the roster, so one of those two would likely be cut if Wilson does end up inking a deal.

Overall, Wilson is no longer an elite quarterback, let alone an average starter. However, his experience makes him a viable No. 2 signal-caller, and he would work well in New York with Smith.
