Gang Green fans, get ready for a Week 1 showdown with a familiar face—and some serious emotional weight.

The New York Jets will kick off their 2026 season on the road against the Tennessee Titans in Nashville, marking a highly anticipated reunion with former head coach Robert Saleh. After four seasons leading the Jets, Saleh took the Titans' head coaching job in January, following a second stint as the San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator.

This isn't the first time the NFL schedule-makers have had a little fun with the Jets' opener. Just last season, New York faced the Pittsburgh Steelers and former quarterback Aaron Rodgers shortly after his release. Now, they'll line up against Saleh and a Titans roster that also features several ex-Jets, including Jermaine Johnson, John Franklin-Myers, Solomon Thomas, Tony Adams, Michael Carter, and Jacob Martin. Adding to the intrigue, former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll will serve as Tennessee's offensive coordinator.

For the Jets, 2026 is a pivotal year under head coach Aaron Glenn. Coming off a tough 3-14 season, the team has undergone a major roster overhaul. Quarterback Geno Smith returns under center after being acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders in a March trade. In last month's draft, New York used its first-round picks on David Bailey, Kenyon Sadiq, and Omar Cooper Jr.—all part of an aggressive push to end the longest active playoff drought in North American sports (15 years).

After being outscored 188-54 over their final five games in 2025, the Jets won't appear in any prime-time slots this season—a stark contrast to their two prime-time games a year ago. Still, the focus is on building momentum from the very first snap.

While some fans are already calling Week 1 a "must-win" for Glenn, the reality is more nuanced. This game is undeniably significant for the Jets' brass, but it's also about measuring progress. Saleh is still laying the foundation in Tennessee, and while the Jets have improved on paper, this matchup will likely come down to which quarterback takes better care of the football. With Smith leading the league in interceptions (32) over the past two seasons, the Titans may hold a slight edge at home.

One thing's for sure: when the Jets and Titans meet in Nashville, the storyline will be as compelling as the game itself.
