College football is gearing up for an electrifying 2026 season, and the stat sheets are already stacked with returning talent. Despite the transfer portal constantly shuffling rosters, it hasn't wiped out the sport's career leaders. Many of the top producers are now wearing new colors, while others are sticking around to pad already impressive résumés. From big-name stars to unsung heroes at the Group of Six level, this year's leaderboards are packed with familiar faces and a few surprises.

Let's dive into the active career leaders across passing, rushing, receiving, and defense as we head into the 2026 campaign. It's a deep field, especially under center—10 quarterbacks enter the season with at least 30 starts, and 27 have 20 or more. Remarkably, 19 of those 37 signal-callers are suiting up for a new school, adding even more intrigue to the mix.

First up: passing yards. Who's the top dog? That would be Josh Hoover. After three seasons at TCU, he's transferred to Indiana, and it's easy to see why the Hoosiers—coming off a national championship run—brought him in. No active FBS quarterback has thrown for more career yards. But there's a catch: Hoover's 33 career interceptions also lead all returning QBs, earning him a spot near the bottom of Tom Fornelli's Whoopsy Daisy Rate. He's got the arm, but decision-making is the next hurdle.

You'll notice the top nine passers all come from Power Four programs, but five of them spent time at the Group of Six level. Owen McCown is the exception going the other way—he started at Colorado in 2022 before lighting it up at UTSA. Meanwhile, Noah Fifita quietly put together his best season yet at Arizona, throwing 29 touchdowns against just six interceptions. That ranked eighth among qualified FBS quarterbacks. Now entering his third year in Seth Doege's system, Fifita already owns the program record for career touchdown passes and needs just 823 yards to add another milestone.

Whether you're tracking stats for your fantasy league or just love the game, this season is shaping up to be one for the books. Stay tuned as these stars chase history—and maybe grab some fresh gear to support your favorites along the way.
