Are the Magic, as currently constructed, good enough to make a deep playoff run? That was the question posed to Magic president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman less than 24 hours after Orlando was eliminated from the first round of the NBA playoffs for a third consecutive season. “Here’s what I’ll say to that,” Weltman said last Monday, “We went up 3-1 against the No. 1 team in the East ...

The Orlando Magic are facing a pivotal offseason after yet another first-round playoff exit—their third in a row. The big question on everyone's mind: Is this roster truly built for a deep postseason run?

Just 24 hours after the Magic were eliminated, team president Jeff Weltman addressed that very question. "We went up 3-1 against the No. 1 team in the East," he said. "Had we stayed healthy, I'd like to imagine where we would've gone in this series and beyond."

Weltman emphasized that the team's construction was designed for playoff success. "When you build a team for the playoffs, you look for positional versatility, guys who elevate their game when it matters most, and physicality. We saw glimpses of that when healthy. I don't see any reason why we couldn't have competed with anyone in the East."

But health is only part of the story. The day after elimination, Weltman dismissed head coach Jamahl Mosley—a clear signal that deeper changes are coming. He also outlined roster needs: more shooting and veteran experience.

This raises an uncomfortable question: If injuries were such a major factor, who is accountable? Weltman was asked directly whether the team's medical staff needs a re-evaluation.

"There are a lot of different ways to look at that," he replied. "This isn't some venture where you're dealing with a thousand episodes and can discern clear patterns. Every year brings a few specific situations. You have to separate the players from the injuries themselves."

For Magic fans, the message is clear: expect a thorough review of everything—from player health to roster construction—as Orlando looks to finally break through in the East.
