The Michigan Wolverines have landed a major in-state recruit, signaling that the new coaching staff is already making waves on the home front. Four-star offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey announced his commitment on Saturday, becoming the first player from Michigan to pledge to the revamped program under head coach Kyle Whittingham.

Lipsey, a towering 6-foot-5, 290-pound tackle from Kalamazoo Loy Norrix, is rated as the No. 3 prospect in the state and the No. 10 offensive tackle nationally for the class of 2027, according to 247 Sports' composite rankings. His commitment is a significant early win for first-year offensive line coach Jim Harding, who has quickly proven his recruiting prowess.

Harding is no stranger to developing elite talent, as evidenced by last month's NFL Draft, where two of his former protégés from Utah—Spencer Fano (No. 9 overall to Cleveland) and Caleb Lomu (No. 28 to New England)—were selected in the first round. That track record of success is a promising sign for Michigan's offensive line future.

Lipsey is the sixth commit in the Wolverines' 2027 class, joining Saline's Louis Esposito (who originally committed to the previous staff) and Muskegon defensive lineman Recarder Kitchen. While Esposito and Kitchen were holdovers from the old regime, Lipsey is the first to officially buy into the new vision. The class currently ranks No. 33 nationally and No. 12 among 18 Big Ten teams.

Before his commitment, Lipsey had official visits lined up with UCLA, Wisconsin, Minnesota, LSU, and Michigan. It remains to be seen whether he will keep those trips or shut down his recruitment entirely.
