Jadon Sancho's loan spell at Aston Villa hit another rough patch on Sunday evening as the Manchester United winger turned in a lackluster performance against Tottenham Hotspur. The 24-year-old, who left Old Trafford on yet another temporary move at the start of the season, has struggled to find his form in claret and blue, and this display did little to silence doubts about his future.

With the second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Nottingham Forest looming on Thursday, Villa manager Unai Emery opted for a heavily rotated side at Villa Park. Sancho was handed a starting berth and played 85 minutes, but it was an afternoon to forget for both the player and his team, who fell to a 2-1 defeat.

Sancho's performance was best described as anaemic, lacking the spark that once made him one of Europe's most exciting young talents. He failed to register a single key pass or complete a successful cross, while his passing accuracy languished at just 71%. Perhaps most tellingly, he didn't manage a single shot on goal during his time on the pitch, underlining his lack of attacking threat.

Even in defensive duties, the England international struggled, losing his only tackle attempt. However, it wasn't all doom and gloom. Sancho showed glimpses of his dribbling ability, winning all three of his ground duels and completing both of his attempted take-ons against the Tottenham defence—small consolations in an otherwise forgettable outing.

Sancho's future remains a hot topic of conversation, with a permanent departure from Manchester United looking increasingly likely when his contract expires this summer. Aston Villa, RB Leipzig, and his former club Borussia Dortmund have all been linked with a move, and Dortmund's sporting director Ole Book recently added fuel to the fire by praising the player's quality and recalling his previous success in the Bundesliga.

For now, Sancho will be hoping to make a more significant impact when Villa face Nottingham Forest in the Europa League semi-final second leg later this week. It's a chance to remind everyone of the talent that once had Europe's top clubs vying for his signature—and perhaps salvage what has been a difficult season.
