Jadon Sancho's time at Manchester United is set to come to an end this summer when his contract expires in June, marking the conclusion of what many consider one of the worst signings in the club's history.

After being pursued relentlessly for two transfer windows, Sancho finally joined United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for a staggering £73 million. However, his Old Trafford career has been nothing short of a disaster. The English winger managed just 83 appearances and scored only 12 goals during his time with the Red Devils.

In a twist of fate, Sancho has spent the last three seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and now Aston Villa, where he's found more team success than at his parent club. His latest loan spell at Villa Park took an interesting turn this week when he made a brief cameo appearance in Aston Villa's Europa League semi-final against Nottingham Forest.

Coming on as a late substitute with Villa already leading 4-0, Sancho played just nine minutes, recording only one touch of the ball. He had no key passes or shots on goal, but did make one defensive clearance in the comfortable victory.

Remarkably, the 26-year-old is now on the verge of achieving something few players have ever done: play in three different European finals in three consecutive seasons. Aston Villa will face German side Freiburg on May 20th in the Europa League final, giving Sancho another shot at continental glory.

His European final journey began in 2024 when he helped Borussia Dortmund reach the Champions League final, where they fell 2-0 to Real Madrid despite a strong performance. Last season, he tasted victory with Chelsea, scoring in their 4-1 Conference League final win over Real Betis.

While Sancho has been mostly a bit-part player for Aston Villa this season, this upcoming final offers him a unique opportunity to complete a remarkable hat-trick of appearances across Europe's three major competitions.
