Kylian Mbappé has opened up about the challenges of wearing the iconic white jersey, admitting that being booed by his own fans is simply "the life of a Real Madrid player."
The French superstar was met with whistles when he came off the bench during Real Madrid's 2-0 victory over Real Oviedo on Thursday night. While the result was positive, the reception for Mbappé highlighted growing tensions between the player and the demanding Madridista faithful.
Despite an incredible individual campaign—41 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions—the 27-year-old has faced intense scrutiny. An astonishing "Mbappé Out" petition has even garnered millions of signatures, a stark reminder of the pressure that comes with playing for the most successful club in European football.
The frustration stems from Real Madrid's second consecutive season without silverware since Mbappé's blockbuster move from Paris Saint-Germain. For a club built on Champions League glory and La Liga dominance, that's simply not good enough.
"The whistles... that's life. You can't change the opinion of the people when they are angry," Mbappé said after the match. "It's the life of a Real Madrid player and a famous player like me. Footballers don't always have to understand—they have to accept, look forward, and change the situation."
The forward also addressed his surprise benching, despite declaring himself "100% fine" following a recent hamstring injury. Head coach Álvaro Arbeloa opted to start Mastantuono, Vinícius Jr., and Gonzalo ahead of him, a decision Mbappé says he must respect.
"I was ready to start, but it's the coach's decision and it always has to be respected," Mbappé explained. "I have no problem at all with Arbeloa. You have to accept the coach's philosophy, and I have to do better to play ahead of Vini, Gonzalo, and Mastantuono."
For a player of Mbappé's caliber, the message is clear: adapt, improve, or risk losing his place in the world's most demanding lineup. At Real Madrid, past glories mean nothing—only what you do next.
