Today, Wednesday, May 13, marks the fourth nationwide Jersey Day celebration—essentially an unofficial holiday for club sports. If you spotted a few people walking through the city in their club gear, now you know why: the German Olympic Sports Confederation called on all members of sports clubs across Germany to wear their club’s jersey, tracksuit, or sports outfit in everyday life for a day. Whether at work, school, university, or while shopping, fans embraced the chance to show off their favorite football club shirt. And as we all know, some of these outfits are curious, bizarre, and unintentionally hilarious.

We can’t let this nationwide Jersey Day pass without revisiting the craziest outfits ever seen on football’s big—and small—stages. In 2019, Huddersfield Town unveiled a new shirt with a massive sash, but instead of the club crest, it featured a giant "Paddy Power" logo from the betting company. Fortunately for fans of the English club, the whole thing turned out to be a clever PR stunt.

Another club, AFC Bedale, earned genuine laughs with a very special design: a sausage-and-stew look. It’s one of those shirts you see once—and never forget. On the flip side, many fans were far less impressed by the so-called "Mashup Kit" released by Manchester City in 2019. The idea was to combine several classic shirts into one design, but the result looked more like a washing machine full of club history.

Of course, 1. FC Köln’s carnival shirts can’t be left off this list. The 2025 model, in particular, reminded many fans more of pajamas than a football shirt. All that’s really missing is matching club-themed bed linen. And while tattoos of your own face are old news, shirts with faces on them are apparently the future—at least for Bohemians Dublin, who simply printed reggae legend Bob Marley on their jersey. Bold? Definitely. A matter of taste? Absolutely.

From PR stunts to fashion faux pas, Jersey Day reminds us that football shirts are more than just gear—they’re a canvas for creativity, humor, and sometimes, pure madness. So whether you’re rocking a classic kit or a quirky design, wear your jersey with pride. After all, it’s your badge of fandom.
