It’s beginning to look like a basketball team

It’s the end of April, and the transfer portal has officially closed. That means it’s time to take a closer look at the basketball roster—and for the first time in a while, it’s starting to feel like a real team. With at least five solid players locked in, there’s finally some structure to work with.

The past two seasons have been a whirlwind. Between coaching changes and an almost entirely new lineup each year, it’s been tough to keep track of who’s wearing the uniform. But this year feels different. Under Justin Gainey, the pieces are coming together, and the starting lineup is beginning to take shape—assuming all committed players follow through and sign.

One wildcard remains: Paul McNeil. If he decides to return, he could completely change the team’s dynamic. But for now, he’s in a mysterious holding pattern—neither here nor there, neither committed nor gone. It’s a classic offseason saga, and we’ll get an answer when the time is right.

As things stand, the roster is about six deep in quality talent. Here’s a look at the current depth chart:

1 – Preston Edmead / Hammond / Adams / Kingston Whitty
2 – Christian Hammond / Adams
3 – (Paul McNeil) / Darius Adams / RJ Keene
4 – Eemeli Yahalo / Keene / Mikey Wilkins
5 – Kyle Evans / Yahalo / Wilkins

It’s a solid foundation. There’s a good mix of skill and size, with several tall players ready to make an impact. We don’t know exactly how the rotation will sort out, but at least there’s something to talk about. After two years of uncertainty, it’s refreshing to see a real basketball team starting to take shape.
