While it's clear Aiyuk's time in Santa Clara is over, the Niners are refusing to simply let him walk for nothing—holding out for a trade package that hasn't materialized.

Washington has long been the most talked-about landing spot, thanks to Aiyuk's close bond with quarterback Jayden Daniels. But as the team approaches mandatory minicamps, the deal has stalled. The veteran wideout spent the 2025 season with the New England Patriots, posting an impressive 82.6 PFF grade and proving he still has plenty left in the tank. Now a 32-year-old free agent, Diggs offers a high-ceiling, short-term solution—and best of all, he wouldn't cost a single draft pick. "I think he's as good a complement as you could ask for," one analyst noted, making Diggs a serious option to boost Daniels' rookie arsenal without the headache of a prolonged trade standoff.
