The crisis in South Bend has deepened. Notre Dame's men's basketball program suffered another significant blow this week as forward Kebba Njie entered the transfer portal, marking the seventh player to exit this offseason.

This mass exodus is turning a challenging offseason into a full-blown disaster for second-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry. The pressure is mounting as the roster he built continues to erode, casting a long shadow over the program's immediate future.

Njie, a 6-foot-10 senior, followed Shrewsberry from Penn State to Notre Dame ahead of the 2023-24 season. A defensive presence in the paint, his career was unfortunately marred by injury this past season, limiting him to just 17 games where he averaged 2.5 points and 3.4 rebounds. With his eligibility exhausted, his departure underscores the scale of the rebuild facing the Irish.

The list of departures is staggering and includes some of the team's brightest young talents. The exit of five-star freshman Jalen Haralson, who led the team with 16.2 points per game, and starting guard Markus Burton represents a devastating talent drain. They are joined by Cole Certa, Ryder Frost, Garrett Sundra, and Sir Mohammed in seeking opportunities elsewhere.

This comes on the heels of a brutally tough 13-18 season where Notre Dame finished 4-14 in the loaded ACC and missed the postseason entirely. With no incoming transfers announced to counterbalance these losses, the prospect of fielding a competitive roster next season looks increasingly grim.
