Jacksonville University's Cinderella lacrosse run came to a tough end on May 10, as the Dolphins fell 18-5 to powerhouse Notre Dame in the NCAA tournament. The second-ranked Irish took control early, building a commanding 9-1 lead by halftime at Arlotta Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
For JU, the loss marked the conclusion of a historic season that saw the Dolphins capture their first-ever ASUN championship on May 3 and notch their first NCAA tournament victory just four days later, a 13-7 win over Robert Morris. The Dolphins finished with an impressive 11-5 record, while the Irish improved to 11-2.
Junior William Krupsky of Fleming Island continued his hot streak, leading the Dolphins with two goals for the second straight game. The attackman had exploded for a career-high five goals in the win over Robert Morris. Bolles graduate Daylin John-Hill contributed a goal and an assist, while Jack Taylor and Parker Addison each found the back of the net. Nicky Brown dished out three assists in the effort.
In other NCAA tournament action, Tampa's Spartans used a dominant second quarter to pull away from Flagler, outscoring the Saints 4-1 in the period en route to a 12-3 victory. Senior attack Jackson Bashaw of Jupiter led the way for top-seeded Tampa (19-1) with five goals. Flagler (12-6) got goals from Dempsey Gibbs and Trace McDonald.
While the Dolphins' season ended earlier than they hoped, their breakthrough campaign has put Jacksonville lacrosse firmly on the map. For fans looking to rep the team's historic run, gear up with the latest JU lacrosse apparel and celebrate a season of firsts.
