Ipswich Town's return to the Premier League has come at a cost for two of their key midfielders. Azor Matusiwa and Jack Taylor are both set for a summer on the sidelines after undergoing successful surgeries.
The club confirmed that Matusiwa, 28, required an operation on a muscle injury, while 27-year-old Taylor underwent a knee cartilage procedure. "Both surgeries were a success," read a club statement. "The players will now focus on their recovery during the summer break."
This news comes just after Ipswich secured their promotion back to the top flight, finishing second behind Coventry City in the Championship. Matusiwa, who joined from French side Rennes last summer, was a workhorse in the midfield, making 46 appearances across all competitions. Taylor, a Republic of Ireland international, was equally influential, featuring in 42 games.
For fans excited about the new season, the silver lining is that both players will have the entire summer to rehab and should be ready to hit the ground running when the 2026-27 Premier League fixtures are announced on 19 June. In the meantime, the squad will be counting on depth and new signings to fill the gap during pre-season.
