Ipswich Town's push for automatic promotion hit a bump in the road with a 2-0 defeat away at Portsmouth's Fratton Park. Head coach Kieran McKenna was frank in his assessment, stating his team simply "did not quite hit the levels" required on the night.

The Tractor Boys began brightly but were undone by conceding two goals just before halftime. Despite creating chances, they couldn't find a way back into the game in the second half, leaving McKenna and the traveling fans disappointed.

While the result is a setback, the broader Championship picture remains positive for Ipswich. They still hold a strong position in the automatic promotion spots, sitting 10 points behind leaders Coventry City. Crucially, they maintain a two-point cushion over Millwall and a three-point lead over both Southampton and Middlesbrough.

The promotion race is far from over, and Ipswich's destiny is still very much in their own hands. They possess a game in hand and have pivotal head-to-head clashes against both Middlesbrough and Southampton scheduled before the season concludes, setting the stage for a dramatic final run-in.

Reflecting on the performance, McKenna emphasized the relentless challenge of the Championship. "We spoke after the Norwich game that that wasn't the pinnacle, especially when we're playing teams with massive motivations of their own," he said. "Every game is going to be harder... we didn't quite hit the levels tonight but we have games ahead to look forward to, to do it."
