IPL 2026: Will Varun Chakravarthy play vs RCB? Massive update on KKR mystery spinner

Kolkata Knight Riders face a must-win IPL 2026 clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, with star spinner Varun Chakravarthy's fitness a major concern. Assistant coach Shane Watson expressed optimism about the team's recent form and potential playoff push, highlighting Angkrish Raghuvanshi's impressive skill development.

The stakes couldn't be higher for the Kolkata Knight Riders as they prepare for a must-win IPL 2026 showdown against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. With the playoffs slipping further out of reach, KKR will be hoping for a timely boost—both from their squad's recent form and, crucially, from the fitness of their star spinner, Varun Chakravarthy.

Currently sitting eighth on the points table with four wins, five losses, and nine points, KKR need to win every remaining match to keep their postseason dreams alive. That task becomes even more challenging if Chakravarthy is unavailable. The mystery spinner aggravated a left leg injury during the previous match and remains a doubt for the crucial fixture in Raipur.

Assistant coach Shane Watson provided an update on Chakravarthy's condition, saying, "He's just being monitored at the moment. Obviously he was sore the second last game and the last game he was in a lot of pain, even though he still bowled incredibly well. We've got our fingers crossed that he will be available for tomorrow, but we're just still not exactly sure."

Despite the uncertainty, there is plenty of optimism surrounding the squad. Watson was particularly glowing in his praise for young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, describing his skill level as "astonishing." "His skill development as a 21-year-old—it's quite astonishing to be honest. It's mind-blowing for me to see his ability to adapt to different conditions, to different bowlers, and have all the skill options and shot options to navigate that as well as he possibly can," Watson said.

After a slow start to the season, KKR appear to be finding their rhythm at just the right time. Watson noted that the team has finally started to settle as a unit, adding, "From where we were halfway through the tournament to the cricket that we've been playing over the last couple of games in particular, it's been very impressive to see our group really come together across all facets."

As the defending champions RCB come to town, all eyes will be on the team sheet. If Chakravarthy is fit, KKR will have their most potent weapon available. If not, the young guns like Raghuvanshi will need to step up once again. Either way, this clash promises to be a thriller—and the perfect chance for fans to show their support in style.
