In a thrilling development for IPL 2026, the Gujarat Titans have handed a debut to promising all-rounder Nishant Sindhu in their match against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Captain Shubman Gill announced the decision at the toss, opting to bowl first and emphasizing the team's desire to maintain their winning momentum.
"We've been chasing well in the past few games, so we'll continue with that rhythm," Gill explained. He praised Rahul Tewatia's match-winning impact in the previous game and noted that the pitch might offer early assistance for bowlers. "It's all about peaking at the right time," Gill added. "I feel our best game is yet to come, and Nishant Sindhu makes his debut today."
So, who exactly is Nishant Sindhu? The 22-year-old all-rounder from Haryana is a left-handed batter and slow left-arm orthodox bowler who first caught attention during the 2018-19 U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy. In that tournament, he amassed an impressive 572 runs and took 23 wickets, playing a pivotal role in Haryana's title victory.
Sindhu's rise continued on the international stage when he was part of India's victorious squad at the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup. During the tournament, he showcased his all-round abilities, picking up six wickets in five matches and scoring a crucial half-century.
At the domestic level, Sindhu made his first-class debut in the 2022 Ranji Trophy and has since featured in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His consistent performances earned him IPL contracts with Chennai Super Kings in 2023 and 2024, though he didn't get a chance to play in those seasons. Now, with the Titans, he finally gets his opportunity to shine on the biggest stage in T20 cricket.
