IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad hope for Nitish Reddy’s return

Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Daniel Vettori anticipates a tough contest against Punjab Kings, emphasizing the importance of Nitish Kumar Reddy's potential return for team balance. Punjab Kings' assistant coach Brad Haddin highlighted the need for early wickets against SRH's explosive openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, as his team aims for peak performance towards the tournament's end.

As the IPL 2026 season heats up, Sunrisers Hyderabad are banking on a key player's return to restore balance to their lineup. Head coach Daniel Vettori expressed optimism that all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy will be fit for their crucial clash against the Punjab Kings, a match that could shape the playoff race.

"He's feeling a lot better. We don't see a situation where he won't play tomorrow," Vettori said, highlighting Reddy's importance. The coach compared Reddy's impact to that of Marco Jansen or Marcus Stoinis—players who provide invaluable flexibility. "They just offer so much balance to a lineup and make my life a lot easier when it comes to selecting the team," he added.

Vettori acknowledged the challenge posed by the Punjab Kings, who sit near the top of the table for good reason. "Anyone can beat anyone on a given day. We understand the importance of this game, but they are at the top for a reason," he noted. The Kiwi coach also predicted a high-scoring affair, pointing to both teams' aggressive batting approaches. "Their opening combination has complemented their batting lineup well. Like us, they're very aggressive with the bat. You'd anticipate a high-scoring game, and it's the bowling unit that can handle that pressure," Vettori explained.

On the other side, Punjab Kings' assistant coach Brad Haddin laid out a clear game plan: strike early against SRH's explosive openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. "Don't let Head and Abhishek bat long," Haddin emphasized, knowing how dangerous they can be when set.

Despite back-to-back losses, Haddin remains unfazed. "It's about playing your best cricket right at the end of the tournament. That's what our team is striving for—that perfect game. If we find it, we'll be hard to beat," he said. With both sides hungry for momentum, this matchup promises to be a thrilling contest for cricket fans and a showcase of top-tier T20 talent.
