Chennai Super Kings' IPL 2026 campaign has been dealt another tough blow, with debutant all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a fractured right foot. The injury occurred during his first-ever IPL appearance against the Mumbai Indians on May 2, a match that promised so much for the 28-year-old.
Despite the setback, Ghosh made an immediate mark on the big stage. He showcased his athleticism with a diving catch to dismiss Will Jacks and later sent shockwaves through the Mumbai camp by claiming the prized wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. It was a performance that hinted at a bright future, making his premature exit all the more frustrating for the Super Kings faithful.
The exact cause of the injury remains unclear. Ghosh was seen taking a sharp diving catch early in the innings and later appeared to slip during his bowling follow-through while delivering to Naman Dhir. The team's medical staff have since confirmed the fracture, ending his debut season prematurely.
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming was quick to praise the youngster's rapid development. "His improvement in recent weeks has been noticeable. He has been training really well at our academy sessions. It's disappointing that he got injured towards the end," Fleming said. "The other point is that he can bat, and bat well, which is an area of big improvement. So he can genuinely be called an all-rounder."
Ghosh's absence adds to what is becoming a worrying injury crisis for the Super Kings. The franchise has already lost pacer Khaleel Ahmed and batter Ayush Mhatre in recent weeks. Overseas seamers Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson have also been battling fitness issues, while veteran MS Dhoni continues his recovery from a calf strain.
CSK have moved quickly to plug the gaps, signing Akash Madhwal as Mhatre's replacement. The announcement of Ghosh's replacement is expected shortly, as the team looks to steady the ship amid mounting injury concerns. For now, though, the focus remains on a promising debutant whose season ended far too soon.
