IPL 2026, PBKS vs DC: Coach Ian Bell rues Delhi Capitals’ ‘inconsistency’

Delhi Capitals assistant coach Ian Bell acknowledged the team's inconsistency has hampered their playoff chances, admitting they failed to seize crucial moments in tight games. Despite this, Bell emphasized the players' motivation to finish the season strongly.

In a candid assessment that resonates with every cricket fan who has ever watched their team snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, Delhi Capitals assistant coach Ian Bell has put his finger on the franchise's biggest weakness this IPL season: inconsistency.

Speaking ahead of DC's crucial clash against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala, Bell didn't mince words about what has gone wrong. "You look at a few games where we have had our opportunities and, at this level against world-class players and teams, you have to take those moments. We probably haven't done that ruthlessly enough," he admitted.

For a team that entered the tournament with high expectations, the Capitals have found themselves on the wrong side of too many tight finishes. Bell emphasized that the ability to seize those pivotal moments separates the contenders from the also-rans in cricket's most competitive league. "When you play in the IPL, you need to be consistent. We've been involved in a lot of games where we've lost those big moments. Those are the conversations we've been having within the group, and those are hard conversations," he added.

Despite their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, the mood in the DC camp remains defiant. With three league games still to play, Bell insists the motivation hasn't wavered. "We've got three big games remaining... for the individuals as well as for the franchise. The expectation from both sides is to win the next three games. The players are proud to represent DC and will play everything for the badge and the fans."

Meanwhile, across the dugout, Punjab Kings' bowling coach James Hopes offered a refreshingly honest take on his team's recent slump. After a blistering start that had fans dreaming big, PBKS have hit a rough patch with three consecutive losses. But Hopes isn't hitting the panic button just yet.

"It's a little bit of a hiccup," Hopes said of the defeats to Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. "Any team that thinks they're going to go through this tournament and just sail for two months all the way through and not lose a game of cricket is kidding themselves. Our tournament for us starts now."

With both teams desperate to turn their seasons around, Friday's clash promises to be a battle of wills—and a test of which side can finally find the consistency that has eluded them so far.
