Pat Cummins has found himself in unwanted company after being slapped with a hefty fine following Sunrisers Hyderabad's disappointing loss to Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026. The Australian captain was penalized Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during the match at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium—joining a growing list of skippers, including Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya, who have faced similar sanctions this season.
The IPL confirmed the penalty in an official statement after SRH's crushing 82-run defeat on Tuesday night. "As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Cummins was fined INR 12 lakhs," the statement read.
The fine capped off a nightmare evening for Hyderabad, who were completely outplayed by a clinical Gujarat Titans side. GT produced a dominant all-round performance to storm to the top of the IPL 2026 points table. After being put in to bat first, Gujarat posted a competitive 168/5, anchored by a composed 61 from Sai Sudharsan and a crucial half-century from Washington Sundar.
In reply, SRH's much-vaunted batting lineup—known for its explosive firepower—collapsed spectacularly under pressure. The entire side was bowled out for a paltry 86 in just 14.5 overs. Jason Holder and Kagiso Rabada were the chief destroyers, each claiming three wickets to rip through Hyderabad's batting order with ruthless efficiency.
For Cummins, the fine adds insult to injury on a night when nothing went right for the Sunrisers. As the IPL 2026 season heats up, captains across the league are being reminded that discipline—both on and off the field—is non-negotiable.
