The IPL 2026 season continues to serve up drama both on and off the field, with Mumbai Indians' batting coach Kieron Pollard the latest to fall foul of the league's disciplinary regulations. Following Mumbai's thrilling last-ball victory over Punjab Kings at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, Pollard has been fined 15% of his match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

The incident occurred during the 19th over of the second innings, when Pollard was found to have used audible obscenity directed toward the fourth umpire. This breach falls under Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials, which explicitly prohibits "use of an audible obscenity during a match." The former West Indies powerhouse admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction imposed by Match Referee Pankaj Dharmani without contest.

The IPL released an official statement confirming the penalty: "Kieron Pollard, Batting Coach, Mumbai Indians, has been fined 15% of his applicable match fee and accumulated one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL's Code of Conduct for Players and Team officials."

Despite the off-field controversy, the on-field action provided plenty of excitement for cricket fans. Mumbai Indians chased down a daunting target of 201 with just one ball to spare, reaching 205/4 in 19.5 overs. The hero of the hour was Tilak Varma, who smashed an unbeaten 75 off just 44 balls to guide his team home in a high-pressure run chase.

Earlier, Punjab Kings had posted a formidable 200 after a blistering 57 off 32 balls from Prabhsimran Singh and a late cameo of 38 off 17 from Azmatullah Omarzai. However, a middle-order collapse triggered by Shardul Thakur's superb 4/39 kept Mumbai in the contest. In reply, Ryan Rickelton's explosive 48 off 23 provided the perfect platform before Tilak Varma took center stage.

The defeat marks the fifth consecutive loss for Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings, dealing a severe blow to their playoff qualification hopes. For Mumbai Indians, this victory keeps their campaign alive while serving as a reminder that passion can sometimes boil over in the heat of IPL competition—even from the coaching staff.
