IPL 2026 is witnessing a surge in disciplinary actions alongside thrilling cricket. Eight players and staff have faced penalties, from fines to demerit points, for offenses like audible obscenities, mobile phone use in the dugout, and aggressive send-offs. Captains are also being fined for slow over-rates, highlighting a growing concern over player conduct.

The Indian Premier League 2026 season has been a rollercoaster of breathtaking cricket and intense playoff battles, but it's also seen a sharp rise in disciplinary actions. With 46 of 70 league matches already played and Punjab Kings leading the table with 13 points from nine games, the spotlight isn't just on sixes and wickets—it's also on player conduct. So far, eight players and staff members have faced penalties ranging from fines to demerit points for a variety of Code of Conduct violations.

The trouble started early in the tournament. In Match 6, Sunrisers Hyderabad's Abhishek Sharma was fined 25% of his match fee after using an audible obscenity during a clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Off-field behavior also came under fire when Rajasthan Royals' team manager, Ravinder Singh Bhinder (known as Romi Bhinder), was fined ₹1 lakh for using a mobile phone in the dugout during Match 16 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru—a clear breach of strict IPL protocols.

Tempers flared again in Match 18 when Delhi Capitals' Nitish Rana was penalized for arguing with the fourth umpire over a glove change request for teammate Tristan Stubbs. The incident earned him a fine and a demerit point. Just two matches later, Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Tim David was fined for briefly refusing to hand the ball back to the umpires during a match against Mumbai Indians, an act seen as disobeying official instructions.

On-field aggression and emotional outbursts have also been a recurring theme. Rajasthan Royals pacer Nandre Burger was fined after his animated celebration of Rishabh Pant's dismissal was deemed too provocative in Match 32. Meanwhile, young Kolkata Knight Riders batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi faced penalties for slamming his bat and throwing his helmet in frustration after a controversial dismissal for obstructing the field.

These incidents highlight a growing concern over discipline in the league, even as the race for playoffs heats up. For fans and players alike, it's a reminder that passion on the field must be balanced with respect for the game.
