The 2026 Indian Premier League final is scheduled for May 31 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, deviating from the tradition of hosting it at the reigning champions' home ground. Playoffs are slated for May 26, 27, and 29, with matches to be held in Mullanpur and Dharamsala.

The 2026 Indian Premier League is shaping up to be a thrilling spectacle, with the final set to take place at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31. This marks a departure from tradition, as the title clash typically unfolds at the reigning champions' home ground. This year, that honor would have belonged to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, last season's winners, but logistical challenges have led to a change of plans.

The playoff schedule is equally exciting, with Qualifier 1 on May 26, the Eliminator on May 27, and Qualifier 2 on May 29. These crucial matches will be hosted in Mullanpur and Dharamsala, offering a fresh backdrop for the high-stakes action. According to an IPL statement, the shift to three playoff venues is a special case driven by operational needs.

Bengaluru was originally slated to host the final, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India cited requirements from local authorities that fell outside established guidelines. Ongoing administrative issues with ticketing at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium are believed to have influenced the decision. This isn't the first time the final has been relocated—last year's clash moved from Kolkata's Eden Gardens to Ahmedabad due to weather concerns. In fact, Ahmedabad will host its fourth final in five years, with Chennai having staged the 2024 showdown between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders.

As the tournament enters its business end, the race for playoff spots is wide open. Seven teams are still in contention, with Punjab Kings, last year's runners-up, leading the table with 13 points from nine matches. They are closely followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals. Four teams are tied at 12 points each, setting the stage for a dramatic final week to determine who advances to the knockout stage.
