Shashank's fielding issues date back earlier this season. Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting didn't shy away from addressing the issue, remarking during the match, "Poor Shashank Singh, it seems the ball is flying everywhere he's going." Captain Shreyas Iyer was equally blunt after the loss, pointing to the dropped chances as a key factor. "It was a bit too much because we dropped catches at the start. The wicket kept getting slower. They played comprehensive cricket and showed us how to win the match. We weren't that comprehensive enough on the field, nor in bowling, nor in batting," Iyer said.
To make matters worse, PBKS's fielding woes extended beyond Shashank, with Cooper Connolly also dropping a catch against SRH.
