IPL 2026 | 'RCB wanted closer look at Jason Holder catch': Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Royal Challengers Bengaluru seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar expressed his team's desire for umpires to review Jason Holder's catch that dismissed Rajat Patidar. Kumar felt the ball might have touched the ground, impacting the match's outcome. He also reflected on the bowling performance, acknowledging an off-day for Hazlewood but expressing satisfaction with the Powerplay bowling.

In a tense IPL 2026 clash at Ahmedabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar revealed that his team pushed for a closer umpire review of Jason Holder's contentious catch that dismissed captain Rajat Patidar. The moment proved pivotal, as Patidar's lofted shot off left-arm seamer Arshad Khan sailed toward fine leg, where Holder sprinted from deep square leg and pulled off a stunning one-handed grab. But as the towering allrounder hit the turf, the ball appeared to graze the ground, sparking immediate debate over whether the catch was clean.

"I wasn't out there, but from what I could see, the ball does touch the ground," Bhuvneshwar explained after the match. "I don't know what the umpires discussed or if it's within the laws, but we definitely wanted them to take a closer look." That dismissal broke a crucial partnership and triggered a batting collapse, as RBC were bowled out for 155. Gujarat Titans chased down the target with 25 balls to spare, handing RCB a disappointing defeat.

Despite the loss, Bhuvneshwar defended his team's bowling effort, acknowledging that even the best have off days. "I wouldn't say anything went wrong—they just batted well. Josh Hazlewood had an off day, and that happens to anyone in a long tournament. But we're happy with how we've been bowling in the Powerplay overall. It's just one game where someone struggled, but we gave it our all."

On the batting front, the veteran seamer admitted the total fell short. RCB also opted not to use Krunal Pandya's left-arm spin, a decision Bhuvneshwar clarified was tactical. "We had Romario Shepherd as our third seamer, so we wanted to take a chance with him. Suyash is tough to read, and we were looking for quick wickets. That's why Krunal didn't get to bowl."

For RCB fans, this match serves as a reminder of cricket's fine margins—where a single controversial catch can shift momentum. As the tournament progresses, the team will look to bounce back, sharpening both their batting depth and tactical flexibility.
