Iowa women's basketball fans had plenty to celebrate on May 13, as the Hawkeyes secured a dynamic double-commitment day that added serious firepower to their 2026-27 roster. The program announced the signing of two promising talents—point guard Bria Medina and forward Ella Strömdahl—and the Hawkeye faithful wasted no time flooding social media with excitement.

Medina, a 5-foot-6 point guard from Tucson, Arizona, arrives after a standout season at Knox College, where she lit up Division III as the nation's second-leading scorer. Averaging 23.6 points per game on an efficient 46.9% shooting from the field, she also connected on 35.6% of her three-point attempts and an impressive 86.9% from the free-throw line—on nearly nine attempts per game. Beyond scoring, the crafty guard contributed 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per contest, showcasing her all-around game. Medina's explosiveness was on full display in five 30-point outings, including a career-high 40-point performance on January 27.

Joining Medina is Swedish forward Ella Strömdahl, a 6-foot prospect from Uppsala who turns 19 in August. Last season, she averaged 6.5 points and 2.9 rebounds for the RIG Lulea Swedish academy team, while also gaining valuable international experience with Sweden's under-16 and under-18 national teams. Strömdahl brings four years of eligibility and adds length and versatility to the Hawkeyes' frontcourt, becoming the second member of Iowa's 2026 freshman class alongside forward McKenna Woliczko.

The dual commitments signal a strategic push by the Hawkeyes to reload their roster with both proven production and developmental upside. For fans, the message is clear: Iowa women's basketball is building for the future, and the excitement is just beginning.
