Iowa football has hired former Hawkeye and longtime coach Tom Moore as senior consultant to the head coach and offensive advisor.

Iowa football is bringing back a familiar face with championship pedigree. The Hawkeyes have officially added former player and longtime NFL coach Tom Moore to the staff as a senior consultant to the head coach and offensive advisor.

Head coach Kirk Ferentz couldn't hide his excitement about the move. "I have known Tom Moore for over a decade and am thrilled that he has agreed to join our program in an advisory role," Ferentz said in a statement. "Coach Moore has had a long and very successful career in football. He was a player at Iowa, coached at the collegiate level, and spent many years working alongside Hall of Fame coaches in the National Football League. I am grateful that a four-time Super Bowl champion will share his wisdom and perspectives with us—coaches and players."

Moore's connection to Iowa runs deep. He lettered for the Hawkeyes as a quarterback and placekicker in 1959 and 1960, earning a bachelor's degree in history along the way. After a stint as a graduate assistant at Iowa in 1961-62, he served two years in the U.S. Army—where he also coached football—before returning to the college ranks at Dayton, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota.

His transition to the NFL proved even more fruitful. Moore's coaching journey took him through the Pittsburgh Steelers, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions, but it's the hardware that stands out: four Super Bowl rings, including two with the Steelers, one with the Indianapolis Colts, and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That kind of experience doesn't just add depth to the coaching staff—it brings a winning blueprint back to Iowa City.

For Hawkeye fans, this hire signals a commitment to blending tradition with proven success. Moore's return isn't just a homecoming; it's a strategic move to elevate the program with insights from one of football's most decorated minds.
