Shonda Stanton has reset the expectations since arriving as Indiana softball coach. And it has resonated with her Hoosiers.

When Shonda Stanton took the helm of Indiana softball, she didn't just bring a new playbook—she brought a new mindset. In August, she laid out a bold mission for her team: 40 wins and a top-four seed in the Big Ten Tournament. For a program that had only made two NCAA Tournament appearances in the 22 years before her arrival, those goals might have seemed like a long shot. But Stanton never doubted her team.

"As a coach, I didn't blink an eye," Stanton said. "That was a realistic expectation, and our group went to work on that."

And work they did. The Hoosiers not only hit those targets—they soared past them. Now, with a 42-14 record, Indiana is headed to Knoxville for its fourth straight NCAA regional appearance, a feat that would have been unthinkable just a few years ago. They'll open play against No. 7 Virginia on Friday at 8 p.m.

This season marks Indiana's third 40-win campaign in four years, a testament to the winning culture Stanton has cultivated. "This group was on brand," she said. "They were on mission. They're refreshing."

The Hoosiers set the tone early, winning 16 of their first 20 games. They swept Illinois, Maryland, and Purdue, took a series at Michigan, and even knocked off NCAA-bound Washington 9-2 in the conference tournament. Indiana finished as one of just four Big Ten teams with 17 or more league wins and tied for second in the conference with 18 home victories.

Pitching has been a cornerstone of their success, with Taylor Hess, Aubree Hooks, and Ella Troutt each recording more than 10 wins. Offensively, the Hoosiers ranked second in the Big Ten in hits, runs scored, and OPS, and third in slugging percentage.

For a program that once struggled to find its footing, these regional trips have become second nature. "When you can just focus on your game prep and not worry about the logistical things," Stanton said, "that's when you know you've built something special."

As the Hoosiers gear up for another postseason run, one thing is clear: under Stanton's leadership, Indiana softball isn't just competing—it's thriving.
