The Indiana Hoosiers are making a significant early move in the 2026 transfer portal cycle, reportedly set to host their first official visitor. According to Joe Tipton of On3, the program will welcome Notre Dame transfer guard Markus Burton to Bloomington this weekend.
Burton, a junior, is coming off a season cut short by a left ankle injury suffered in December, but his prior production is turning heads. Before the injury, he was a dynamic scorer for the Fighting Irish, averaging 18.5 points, 3.7 assists, and nearly 3 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 48.9% from the field.
This potential homecoming carries extra weight for the Hoosiers. Burton is an Indiana native from Mishawaka and a former Penn High School star who won the prestigious Mr. Basketball award in 2023. His commitment would mark the first time a former Mr. Basketball winner plays for head coach Darian DeVries at Indiana, and the first since Anthony Leal's tenure ended after the 2024-25 season.
After a visit to Houston, all eyes are now on Bloomington as Burton explores what could be a pivotal next step for both the player and a Hoosier program looking to bolster its backcourt with proven, high-level talent.
