The Miami Hurricanes just made a massive statement on the recruiting trail. On Saturday, they landed a commitment from five-star cornerback Donte Wright Jr., flipping the elite prospect from the University of Georgia.
Wright, a standout from Long Beach, California, is ranked as the No. 2 cornerback and the No. 9 overall player in the 2027 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound defensive back announced his decision on social media, writing, "After a lot of prayer, thought (and) talks with my family, I would like to announce I will be committing to the University of Miami."
This flip is a significant win for the Hurricanes, as Wright had been committed to the Bulldogs since June 30, 2025. His junior season at Long Beach Poly was impressive, recording 25 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, and seven pass breakups. His scouting report on 247Sports describes him as a "coverage ace that could be a difference-maker for any Power Four defense with his speed, twitch and physicality."
Wright joins Sherrod Gourdine as the second cornerback in Miami's 2027 recruiting class. He also becomes the third five-star prospect to commit to the Hurricanes, alongside quarterback Israel Abrams and wide receiver Nick Lennear. For a program looking to reload its secondary, adding a player of Wright's caliber is a huge step forward, and it signals that Miami is serious about competing with the nation's best on the recruiting trail.
