The stage is set for the 2026 District 2 Championships, and the track and field scene is buzzing with anticipation. In Class 2A girls' competition, several athletes have already staked their claim as the ones to beat, promising thrilling battles on the track and in the field.

Leading the charge is Mid Valley's Olivia Thomas, who is poised to dominate the hurdles and jumps. As the clear favorite in the 100 hurdles, she's not just the class of the field—she's one of the top performers in the entire state. Thomas is also the athlete to watch in the long jump, where she boasts the best distance in Pennsylvania this season, and she holds the Lackawanna Track Conference (LTC) record. Her versatility shines in the triple jump, where she's soared past 39 feet at the Spagna Championships, and she's the reigning Spagna champion in the high jump. Simply put, she's the most complete athlete in girls' track and field.

In the sprints, Western Wayne's Olivia Haines is the defending champion in the 100 meters and backed it up with a strong showing at the Spagna meet, finishing among the top sprinters. Meanwhile, Lakeland's Bria Hill, a sophomore, has been the top sprinter in the LTC all season. She posted the fastest time in District 2 Class 2A at the Spagna Championships in the 400 meters and is also the favorite in the 200 meters.

Distance events promise fierce competition. Elk Lake's Kendyl Weisgold is the defending champion in the 1600 meters and has been consistent all season, but she'll face a tough challenge from Montrose's Avery Kerr, who won the Spagna title. Weisgold also enters as the favorite in the 800 meters, thanks to her strong blend of endurance, speed, and determination. In the 3200 meters, Montrose's Ava Rebello has impressed by competing hard against top Class 3A runners and the state's best, delivering a standout performance at the Spagna Championships.

In the hurdles, Lakeland's Kaylyn Davis showed remarkable resilience. After a tumble in the 100 hurdles, she bounced back to win the 300 hurdles at the Spagna meet. Over on the field, Montrose's Anna Tillotson has been a model of consistency in the shot put, coming off a title win at Spagna. Western Wayne's Sadie Booths is the Spagna champion in the discus and has one of the top distances in the state this season. In the javelin, Montrose's Sadie Jones set a school record with her championship-winning throw at Spagna. Western Wayne's Juleighanna Eldred continues the school's proud tradition in the pole vault.

On the boys' side, the action is just as intense. In the 110 hurdles, Dunmore's Weston Yannone has established himself as one of the best in LTC history after winning gold at the Spagna Championships. The 100 meters features Montrose's Max Kuwaye, who had an outstanding season and finished third at Spagna. In the 1600 meters, Elk Lake's Kendel Jones is the overwhelming favorite in an event where athletes have been shattering school records all season.

The 400 meters is shaping up to be a must-watch race, with Montrose's Nico Christian and Dunmore's Jacob Costanzo set for a thrilling showdown. In the 300 hurdles, Western Wayne's Robert Carrelle is fully healthy and coming off a championship win at the Spagna meet, making him one of the top athletes to beat.

With so much talent on display, the 2026 District 2 Championships are shaping up to be an unforgettable showcase of speed, strength, and determination. Whether you're a fan of the sprints, distance events, or field competitions, there's no shortage of excitement ahead.
