English giant Arsenal visits the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Wednesday with the hopes of gleaning an advantage over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final showdown. The current Premier League leader is fighting on two fronts to end this season with two titles in tow, but a trip to Atleti is enough to intimidate any European powerhouse.
Neither of these teams is enjoying stellar form at present, with Atleti managing just two wins from its last nine, including a defeat to Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final. The Gunners, meanwhile, recently ended a three-game winless run to return to the top of the Premier League but are stumbling across the finish line.

That’s in contrast to October when Arsenal hosted Atletico in the league phase of this competition and powered to a 4-0 win at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta can dream of a repeat result in the Spanish capital this week, though it’s been more than two months since Arsenal last produced more than two goals in the same game.
Bukayo Saka has returned to fitness at an opportune time for the Gunners, though Kai Havertz is at risk of missing out after he came off in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Newcastle. Mikel Merino and Jurrien Timber are still sidelined for the guests, who are also sweating on the fitness of Martin Zubimendi and Saturday’s match-winner, Eberechi Eze.
Los Rojiblancos know Pablo Barrios and Jose Maria Gimenez will miss Wednesday’s home leg, while forwards Julian Alvarez and Ademola Lookman are also slight doubts to be ready in time.
