The most questionable decision of the 2026 NFL draft was the Los Angeles Rams' selection of Ty Simpson in the first round.

It's tough to say that this was the right or wrong move at the moment, as we don't know how Simpson will look in the future, but the reality is that the Rams needed more help in other parts of their roster, and selecting Simpson doesn't necessarily help them get closer to winning a Super Bowl right now.

It'll be interesting to see what the plan for Matthew Stafford is in the long term, though the expectation is that he'll continue to play for as long as he wants.

Simpson, in the meantime, will be paid $25.4 million over his rookie contract, which spans more than four years, per Spotrac.

One of the benefits of selecting Simpson now is that he gets to learn from Stafford.

It probably would have been a better idea to select a player of need, but the Rams are hopeful they have found their future quarterback, and Simpson is very excited to get to play next to a guy like Stafford, who has already reached the top of the NFL world multiple times.

"I'm super ecstatic, because I just want to pick his brain about everything, soak up all that knowledge," Simpson said. "That dude, how he goes about things is super, super awesome. I've been a big fan for a long time."
