Family first is more than just a motto for the Sanders clan—it’s a way of life. Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders stepped away from the professional spotlight this past Friday to join his father, Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders, for a truly special occasion: celebrating his sister Shelomi’s graduation from Alabama A&M University.

The family gathered in Huntsville, Alabama, on May 8, 2026, at the AAMU Event Center for the university’s Spring Commencement ceremony. Shelomi officially earned her Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Sports Management, adding another impressive chapter to the Sanders family’s growing HBCU legacy. She becomes the second of Deion’s children to graduate from a Historically Black College and University, following her brother Shilo’s graduation from Jackson State in 2023.

While the achievement itself was noteworthy, it was an unexpected moment of family unity that stole the show. The ceremony sparked a wave of social media buzz thanks to a rare public display of togetherness between Deion Sanders and his ex-wife, Pilar Sanders. The pair, whose highly publicized and contentious divorce in 2013 has kept them at a noticeable distance at public events, were seen sitting close together during the ceremony.

Shelomi couldn’t resist poking a little fun at the moment. She shared a clip of her parents sitting side-by-side on Instagram, captioning it, “look at how close I got them,” along with the hashtag #doitforthekids. To make the moment even sweeter, Deion himself validated the post by resharing it on his own verified account.

The weekend capped off a whirlwind academic stretch for Shedeur as well. Just seven days prior, the Browns quarterback walked the stage at the University of Colorado to collect his own degree in sociology. Despite his busy professional schedule, he made the trip to Alabama to return the support his sister had shown him at his own graduation in Boulder.

As Shelomi put it best: sometimes it takes a graduation cap to bring everyone together. Congratulations to the entire Sanders family—and especially to Shelomi, for earning her degree and, apparently, a little family reunion along the way.
