PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh Hornets made a powerful statement on their home courts Thursday, delivering a commanding sweep over Lake Placid that showcased both depth and determination across the board.
The visiting Bombers found their only bright spot in the girls' No. 2 singles match, where Raquel Arreaza battled to a gritty 6-3, 6-4 victory. But from there, it was all Hornets, as Plattsburgh's lineup proved too strong at every turn.
On the boys' side, Ruhan Bamber set the tone in emphatic fashion, dominating the No. 1 singles match with a pair of 6-1 sets. The No. 2 match was a forfeit, giving Plattsburgh two quick points before the doubles even began. The Hornets' doubles teams were equally impressive, with Teddy Raut and Soumar Bachawaty (No. 1), Owen Doorey and Aiden Drolette (No. 2), and Kane Ready and Eli Wilson (No. 3) all cruising to straight-set victories.
The girls' team followed suit, with Emma Slattery delivering a crisp 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to help split the singles points. The doubles tandems of Mazie Sellars and Charlie Boule, Dana Lavalley and Reese Boire, and Elizabeth Chase and Delaney Faucher each won their respective matches, sealing a comprehensive team victory.
In Ellenburg, the Beekmantown Eagles continued their impressive run with a hard-fought sweep over NAC, though the Bobcats made them earn every point.
Dylan Brown and Evan Danville set the pace for the Eagles' boys' team with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. The doubles matches were equally decisive, though the No. 1 pairing of Sonny DeBella and Jackson Goodwin needed three sets to outlast their opponents. Max Danville and Ryan Dubay (No. 2) and Tyler Sand and Jack Miller (No. 3) won in straight sets to complete the sweep.
The Beekmantown girls remained unbeaten with a 3-2 victory, but NAC pushed them to the limit. Olivia Hagadorn and Carly Hagadorn delivered crucial wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while Lucy and Julia Conroy sealed the team victory with a straight-set win at No. 1 doubles. NAC's points came from the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams — Bella LaBombard and Abby Brooks, and Kinsley Trombley and Emalynn Myers — who showed fight and skill throughout.
"Tonight was a great match," said NAC coach Jess Barnhart. "Beekmantown is a great program, and our girls competed hard against the Eagles. I was very proud of how we played tonight."
