PLATTSBURGH — The Hornets were buzzing on the courts as Plattsburgh High School served up dominant performances in both boys' and girls' tennis action.
On the boys' side, the team swept to a commanding 5-0 victory, showcasing precision and power. Ruhan Bamber and Patryk Klimkiewicz set the tone with straight-set wins in their singles matches, while the doubles duo of Soumar Bachaway and Theodore Raut were nearly untouchable, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph.
The girls' team followed suit with a strong 4-1 win, dropping only the No. 1 doubles match to AuSable. Emma Slattery and Ava Weiss anchored the singles lineup with straight-set victories at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The doubles teams sealed the deal, as Dana LaValley and Reese Boire dominated at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1), and Julia Hertel teamed up with Dana LaValley for a solid 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3.
Key results from the day included Patryk Klimkiewicz's flawless 6-0, 6-0 sweep over Fenton, and the No. 1 doubles team of Raut/Bachawaty handling Spooner/Greenly with ease. The Uss sisters, B. and V., also rallied for a hard-fought three-set win at No. 1 doubles (3-6, 7-5, 6-2).
Over in Ellenburg, the competition was just as fierce, with Lake Placid and Northern Adirondack (NAC) splitting victories. NAC's boys rolled to a 5-0 sweep, led by Kacy Hatch's straight-set win at No. 1 singles. The doubles teams were equally impressive: Shane Gilmore and Kameron Chinchilla (No. 1), Brycen LaBombard and Jake Manor (No. 2), and Milo Wilson with Corbin Damour (No. 3) all delivered decisive wins.
Lake Placid's girls countered with a win of their own, powered by Fiona Sullivan and Raquel Arreaza at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles pair of Dana Perez and Leighton Tomaszewski clinched the victory. NAC earned two points through Bella LaBombard and Abby Brooks at No. 2 doubles, and Kinsley Trombley with Emalynn Myers at No. 3, but it wasn't enough to overcome Lake Placid's depth.
Notable scores included Gilmore/Chinchilla's 6-0, 6-1 dismantling of Munson/Contreras, and LaBombard/Manor's 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles for NAC.
