The Holy Trinity boys' track and field team has done it again, repeating as Class 1A state champions and capturing their fourth title in school history. The victory came on Wednesday, May 6, at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, where the team showcased incredible depth and determination.
Holy Trinity outpaced state runner-up Benjamin School by 12 points, finishing with 68 points to Benjamin's 56. The team brought home an impressive 11 medals, led by senior Evan Spreitzer's gold medal performance in the 1600-meter run. Spreitzer's standout effort set the tone for a day of strong performances across the board.
On the girls' side, Holy Trinity tied for 11th place with 20 points, earning five medals. Seventh grader Taylor Geraghty was a bright spot, claiming a bronze medal in the 3200-meter run—a remarkable achievement for such a young athlete.
Melbourne Central Catholic also made its mark, collecting three medals. Junior Grady Bronenbeger was a standout, placing fourth in the high jump and sixth in the long jump. He also anchored the 4x100 relay team to a seventh-place finish, alongside senior Jahlani Clarke and juniors Noah Flores and Isaiah Crockett. The relay squad's chemistry and speed were on full display.
Odyssey Charter's junior Lily Gilmore competed in both the 200 and 400 meters, finishing 10th in the 400 and 13th in the 200. Her versatility and grit were impressive, especially against a deep field of competitors.
The final team standings highlight the competitive nature of Class 1A: Holy Trinity (68), Benjamin School (56), Providence (52), Blountstown (47), Victory Christian (35), Geneva School/Westminster Academy (32), Indian Rocks Christian (26), Pahokee (24), Bishop Snyder/Trinity Christian (21), and Community School (19) rounded out the top 10.
In the 200-meter dash, Boca Raton Christian's Nicholas Matsuguma took the gold with a lightning-fast 21.91 seconds, while Benjamin School's Markel Etienne secured silver at 22.07 seconds. Their sprint showdown was one of the day's highlights.
