Sometimes, the jump from junior varsity to varsity baseball can be a daunting one—especially when you're facing some of the toughest competition in New Jersey. But for Hillsborough junior Gavin Glazewski, that transition has been nothing short of seamless.
This spring, Glazewski has emerged as a true dual-threat for the Raiders, making his mark both on the mound and at the plate. And his breakout season just earned him some well-deserved recognition: the MyCentralJersey Readers Choice Player of the Week, with over 10,000 votes in an online poll.
"This season has for sure been an adjustment getting used to varsity level pitching and velocity," Glazewski said. "I am trying to do a better job of being on time and making solid contact. I am for sure seeing the ball better the past few games. I am happy with my consistency and improving as the season has been going along."
His numbers back up that confidence. Glazewski is currently hitting .378 (14-for-37) with eight RBIs and eight walks. During his Player of the Week stretch, he earned the win over Bridgewater-Raritan by striking out five over four innings while also driving in two runs. He followed that up by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs in a win over Morristown.
Hillsborough head coach Matt Mosko has been impressed with the junior's growth. "Gavin Glazewski has really stepped up his game over the last few seasons, growing into a strong and fundamentally sound player," Mosko said. "His versatility of being a pitcher and first baseman make him a valuable part of our roster and someone we need on the field at all times."
With the Somerset County and Central Group 4 tournaments on the horizon, Hillsborough looks poised to make another deep postseason run—and Glazewski will be a key piece of that puzzle. As he puts it: "Mentality wise, we are coming together as a team and playing for one another and hoping to go on another run to defend our sectional title from last season."
For a player who's still just a junior, that kind of poise—and production—is a sign of big things to come.
