The Chicago Bears came into the 2026 NFL Draft with a handful of needs. One of them was help on the defensive line, whether it be on the edge or on the interior. Shockingly, the Bears went into Day 3 without addressing that issue at all. They didn't worry about that spot until their final pick of the event, which may or may not turn out to be a productive player.
During the sixth round, the Bears traded up to the sixth round to select Georgia Tech defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg. At this stage of the draft, you're not even guaranteed to get a backup-level player, let alone a quality difference maker, but he put enough on tape for the Bears to take that chance on him.
There isn't an overflow of talent on Chicago's current defensive line, so he will get his chances during camp and the preseason, but there is a lot of work to be done for him to reach the role of a starting defensive tackle in the NFL.
