It was just another day at the office for Skyridge Thursday, as it easily handled defending state champion Farmington in emphatic fashion, 15-3.

Skyridge was led by Summer Buechner and Tessa Jamison, who had five and four goals, respectively.

“They played with just a lot of grit, a lot of heart, and they share the ball so well,” said Skyridge head coach Michelle Buechner. “Offense, defense, wherever they are in the play on the field, they just want to share the ball. Give it up to their teammates, and they’re a pass-first team, and I love watching them play.

“You also got to give Farmington credit. They got a really good defense and good transition, and our girls just wanted it a little bit more today.”

Skyridge knew it had a big challenge in facing the defending state champs, and the Falcons were prepared. Skyridge scored three goals within the first two minutes and never looked back.

By halftime the Falcons had a comfortable 8-1 lead.

“The kids were pretty excited about facing the defending state champs. Farmington is such a great team and they have a great program, so to beat a good team makes you feel different than when you beat a mediocre team. You have that sense of pride in being able to match up with those guys and maybe get a few more goals,” Buechner said.

One of the standout players again for Skyridge this season the is standout performer Summer Buechner. She set the single season record last year for assists and has only continued to improve her game in a number of different ways as this season has progressed.

“Her vision from last year has gotten so much better. She just has this vision, and now when she’s connected with the other attackers, it just opens up a lot of options for us and on transition,” said coach Buechner.

It has practically become the norm this season for Skyridge to win week in and week out and win big. While some may think it may become easy for the team to become complacent with all of the dominant performances it is having, coach Buechner emphasized that her team is constantly studying the game film to look for ways to keep improving, knowing there is always something for them to work on.

“I remind them frequently of all the things we need to work on, which helps,” Buechner said. “We get film sessions are not the most fun thing in the world for us because we got a lot to work on.

“The other thing is, we really respect all of our opponents. We know Farmington won the state championship last year and they’re a very good team.”
