The Olympus Titans delivered a statement win Thursday night, sweeping the Brighton Bengals in straight sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-20) to showcase their offensive firepower and team depth.
Brighton came out swinging, seizing a quick 5-0 lead in the opening set. But the Titans showed their resilience, immediately answering with a 6-0 run of their own. After a back-and-forth battle, Olympus closed the first set on a dominant 6-1 run, capped by a powerful kill from Austin Hooton.
"I think our offense played really well," said Olympus head coach John Wright. "We had good passing and defense, a lot of good digs. Our team just played well as a program throughout the match. I was able to put in other guys and I really thought everyone played well."
Olympus carried that momentum into the second set, opening with a 7-2 run and consistently stifling any attempt by Brighton to mount a comeback. Captain and outside hitter Gabe Lincoln set the tone with fierce determination. "I could really see it in his face," Wright noted. "He had something to prove, and he wanted to prove it and he did it tonight."
Even after falling behind 4-2 in the third set, the Titans unleashed a commanding 9-0 run to put the match firmly out of reach, sealing a comfortable victory. With the regular season winding down and the state tournament on the horizon, Coach Wright knows the work is just beginning.
The focus now shifts to refining their game. "We need to keep working hard, change up what we do," Wright explained. "We need to work on a little more of our back row hits and just some more different shots, different sets. We plan on doing that before we get to state."
For a team playing with this much confidence and cohesion, the final stretch of the season is about maintaining that edge. As Coach Wright emphasized, it's time to tighten the screws on every fundamental, stay positive, and prepare for the best every opponent has to offer. The Titans are clearly a team on a mission.
