After the sting of last year's championship series defeat, Kanab High School baseball finally has its moment of glory. The Cowboys stormed past San Juan 13-6 on Saturday to claim the 2A state championship, turning heartbreak into triumph in emphatic fashion.

Offensively, Kanab was unstoppable. Grady Anderson led the charge with four RBIs, while Kanon Virostko added three of his own, keeping the scoreboard operator busy all afternoon. But the real story was on the mound, where pitcher Brady Ramsey delivered a complete-game masterpiece, striking out eight batters and giving his team exactly what it needed to close out the title.

"I'm just really proud of our guys," said Kanab head coach Craig Brinkerhoff. "They're super resilient. Great young men, great teammates. They play for each other, they get pushed hard, and they know what it takes to win."

The game wasn't without its tense moments. San Juan hung tough early, trailing just 5-4 through the top of the fourth inning. But Kanab did what champions do—they seized the moment. A seven-run explosion in the bottom of the fourth broke the game wide open and shifted the momentum for good.

For Brinkerhoff, last year's painful loss was the fuel that powered this year's run. "I think the key to us getting the win today was what happened last year, and how that changed things for us this season," he reflected. "Looking back, that helped us look forward today. I felt like our seniors were ready for the moment more."

But this program is about more than just trophies. Brinkerhoff emphasized that the focus has always been on developing young men for life beyond the diamond. "These kids worked their butts off all year," he said. "For our program, it means we're ready to play. We want to make kids become men, and it's because they're just great young men. That's what we expect when they come in and when they leave."

From the very first practice, Brinkerhoff sensed something special about this group. Despite losing key seniors from last year's squad, the toughness and resilience of this team set the tone for an unforgettable season—one that will be remembered as the year Kanab turned heartbreak into a championship.
