This move comes as a surprise, given Renard's contract was set to run through 2027, a timeline that included leading the team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Saudi Arabia faces a formidable challenge in Group H, drawn against powerhouses Uruguay and Spain, alongside Cabo Verde.

Renard's second stint with Saudi Arabia, which began earlier in 2024, followed his exit as manager of the French women's national team after their quarter-final departure from the Paris Olympics.
