Providence’s men, Bryant’s men and the University of Rhode Island’s men and women made the headlines in last week’s college basketball transfer portal news.

The Friars, Bulldogs and each set of Rams saw roster moves continue at a quick pace. Providence is retooling under new coach Bryan Hodgson, Bryant is settling into a first stateside recruiting cycle under Jamion Christian and URI is looking for Atlantic 10 contention under both Archie Miller and new coach Colleen Mullen.

Jamier Jones is the most prominent player to depart, committing to Missouri after a standout freshman season with the Friars. He was named to the all-rookie team in the Big East and will continue in the SEC with the Tigers. Providence reloaded on the perimeter with Devin Vanterpool (Florida Atlantic) and Ryan Sabol (Buffalo) while also strengthening the paint with Samson Aletan (Yale) and Arrinten Page (Northwestern).

The Bulldogs saw five men’s players enter the portal last week without any commitments. Bryant should be more active when the market starts to settle – power schools ae doing the majority of the bidding at the moment. Andre Pasha (New Haven) and Duane Thompson (Mohawk Valley) should both be impact additions.

The Rams men saw one player leave, one granted a medical waiver for the 2026-27 season and one accept a job offer to join next year’s coaching staff. URI has been connected with a host of potential recruits – Matas Deniusas (Tennessee Martin), Will Snydor (Manhattan) and Roddie Anderson III (Xavier) are among them.

The Rams women have lost a couple key contributors off last year’s NCAA Tournament team and added two from Mullen’s last roster Albany. There could be more Great Danes to follow pending their announcements in the near future. Another reserve has opted to exit the portal and return to URI for next season.

The portal officially remains open for twin 15-day windows – through Tuesday in the women’s game, through Wednesday in the men’s game. Coaches had previously been forced to re-recruit their own rosters or attempt to build news ones in the midst of the NCAA Tournament.

Players generally would like to settle their respective futures before offseason workouts begin, but finding a fit – the right relationship, potential role and an agreements on name, image and likeness rights – is a two-way street. This space will be updated weekly with any local developments.

Jaylen Harrell will look to make his return from knee surgery with Washington State.

The former four-star prospect from Massachusetts will leave Providence after one shortened season. Harrell was limited to six games by a torn meniscus – his last appearance came in a Dec. 2 home win over Fairleigh Dickinson.

Harrell collected 22 points through 54 total minutes – seven against Virginia Tech, six apiece against New Hampshire and the Knights. He should retain four years of eligibility with the Cougars after an expected medical redshirt from the NCAA.

Peteris Pinnis entered the transfer portal after commitments from Samson Aletan and Arrinten Page. That left a crowded frontcourt picture for Pinnis, who came off the bench 18 times in his debut season and played double-digit minutes twice. He joins Daquan Davis, Rich Barron and Jason Edwards among available Friars.

Quincy Allen, Ashley Sims II, Gio Sanford, Ethan Bourgade and Jaheim Nyam have all entered the transfer portal after a lone season with the Bryant men.

Allen appeared in 16 games and closed third on the team in scoring at 9.8 points per game. He was a preseason all-conference selection in the America East after previous stops Colorado, James Madison and Chicago State. Allen will need an NCAA waiver to repeat either last season or a 2023-24 campaign with the Dukes in which he played just seven games.

Sims started in 29 of his 31 appearances as a freshman, totaling 7.2 points and a team-high 5.0 rebounds per game. He hit for a double-double against Maine, a season-high 12 boards against Iona and at least 10 points in 10 games. Bourgade, Sanford and Nyam combined to make 43 appearances off the bench.

Aaron Davis III, Khalil Williams, Langston Bailey and Timofei Rudovskii previously announced entries into the portal. Keegan Harvey and Ty Tabales will both remain with the Bulldogs for 2026-27.

Mouhamed Sow has been granted a medical waiver by the NCAA and will return to the URI men for the 2026-27 season.

Sow and the program made the announcement on Instagram. The transfer from Saint Peter’s played in just five games last season before suffering a knee injury and undergoing surgery.

Sow was expected to be a paint factor after three solid years with the Peacocks. He averaged 6.4 points and 5.6 rebounds in limited action and should slot into a lineup that also includes veteran returners Jonah Hinton and Jahmere Tripp.

The Rams will lose guard Damone King, who has committed to Eastern Kentucky. That’s a homecoming of sorts for the Louisville native, who redshirted in 2024-25 and played in 22 games off the bench last season. King averaged 2.3 points, including 12 in a home victory over Northeastern.
