HARTSELLE, Ala. — The Hartselle Tigers are heading back to familiar territory: the state championship series.
In a dominant performance on Thursday at Sims-Booth Field, Hartselle swept Hazel Green in the state semifinal doubleheader, winning game one 5-3 and game two 8-4. The Tigers, known for their postseason pedigree, showed exactly why they're a force to be reckoned with this time of year.
Game one was a pitcher's duel until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Hartselle's bats came alive. A well-timed rally gave the Tigers the lead, and their defense clamped down to secure the win.
Game two proved to be a different kind of battle. Hartselle exploded for three runs in two separate innings, including a crucial top of the seventh that staved off a Hazel Green comeback attempt. The Tigers' ability to score in bunches and hold off pressure is a hallmark of championship-caliber teams.
Next up for Hartselle is a date next Wednesday against the winner of the Spain Park vs. Northridge series. Game two and, if needed, game three are scheduled for Thursday at Jacksonville State. With the Tigers' momentum and experience, fans can expect another thrilling chapter in their storied postseason run.
