Two attack-minded teams filled to the brim with quality players and two equally talented managers, Bayern Munich and PSG promised the season’s most anticipated match up — and it didn’t disappoint.
Both sides landed massive blows in the first half as PSG walked into the final half of the heavyweight encounter leading 3-2. The second half played out much like the first: goals galore and PSG earning a one goal advantage.
The only difference? By the 58th minute, Bayern looked dead in the water, trailing the home side by three goals. However, Bayern fought back mercilessly, whittled the deficit down to just one goal and most importantly, gave the Bavarian side something to chase when they host PSG at the Allianz Arena next week.
Harry Kane praised the quality of both sides in a post match interview, particularly highlighting his side’s fight to reduce the arrears.
“I think we saw two high-level teams out there today, especially in the attacking play and in the transitions, the speed, the intensity in the 1v1 battles,” said Kane (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Two of the top teams going toe-to-toe. Overall, we had moments where we could have killed the game earlier on as well. So, we take a lot of pride in the fact that we got back to 5-4 because away from home, being 5-2 down could be a really tough place to be. But we fought and we’re back in the tie. We had moments where we could have been more clinical in the final pass or the final finish. We felt we got better and better, especially as the game went on, they started to tire. We’ve just got to bring the same intensity. We’re going to need more of that next week.”
Despite ultimately succumbing to a 5-4 defeat, Vincent Kompany’s side served PSG the same reminder they served Mainz 05 on the weekend: never count Bayern out.
