For the fourth year in a row, Mother's Day weekend meant one thing for Harford Community College: a national championship celebration. The Owls etched their name in junior college lacrosse history Sunday, rallying for an electrifying 18-17 victory over Onondaga to claim their fourth straight NJCAA national title.

The win cements Harford County's place as the premier program in the sport, a dynasty built on resilience and championship grit. "This is where it all kind of builds up to," said head coach Aaron Verardi. "The standards are really high. They know what the expectations are here."

Sunday's thriller was far from a coronation—it was a battle. HCC jumped out to a four-goal halftime lead, but Onondaga stormed back in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to just one. Then came a stunning flurry: the New York powerhouse scored four times in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter, flipping the script and putting the Owls behind for the first time all game.

Champions find a way, and Harford did just that. Over the final 10 minutes, the Owls outscored Onondaga 5-3, tightening their defense and finding clutch goals when it mattered most. The result was a heart-stopping one-goal win that kept the streak alive.

Offensive stars shined bright for HCC. Cody MacNeil, Hugo Peel, and George Shonfield each buried three goals, while four other Owls added two apiece. MacNeil, a Canadian who discovered Harford through a cousin who once played for—ironically—Onondaga, summed up the emotion: "We've worked so hard this year, ups and downs the whole season, but just to be able to say that we're national champions, it's just a surreal feeling."

This season was anything but smooth sailing. The Owls lost two games this year—more than they had in the previous three seasons combined (one). Onondaga had handed them a 17-12 defeat back in March, and HCC even fell to Howard Community College in the NJCAA Region 20 tournament, forcing them to enter the postseason as a No. 5 seed.

But the Owls channeled that adversity into fuel. They avenged the loss to Howard in Saturday's semifinals and carried that momentum into Sunday's championship showdown. Now, they've added another chapter to a remarkable legacy—one that's become a Mother's Day tradition worth celebrating.
